 MRA's Vocational Program

The Computer Technology course teaches word processing, data base, and keyboarding skills. In the Culinary Arts program, basic and advanced concepts in restaurant and cafeteria food preparation are taught.  The Mechanics area practices basic mechanics, small engine repair, bicycle repair and whelding.  The Woodworking classes teach the use of  hand and power equipment, how to interpret and read a blueprint, and completion of projects in class.
The vocational program may include interest testing, occupational exploration, job shadowing, on-the-job training, job seeking skills, and vocational counseling. All programs are designed to help a student explore a wide-range of occupational interests, to learn specific strategies in looking for a job, to open options for further training in the future, or to assist placement of a student competitively in the labor market.
The Vocational Counselors can arrange volunteer training or competitive work sites depending on the level and behavior of the student. Work experience can contribute  to increased self-confidence, to developing appropriate work habits and attitudes, and in learning specific job skills. Short-term volunteer or work training experiences facilitate an easier transition from school to the work world.

          VOCATIONAL & CAREER COUNSELING

Vocational counselors are available at MRA to work with students on career skills, vocational plans, job placement, post graduation plans and placements and issue work papers. Students take interest surveys, may visit appropriate job sites and schools, and participate in an exploratory vocational program at MRA. Students may be eligible to participate in work-study programs.

          CAREER PORTFOLIO

During the senior year, students develop a career portfolio under the guidance of the vocational counselors and MRA staff.
This may include: a resume of high school experiences; employment and volunteer experiences; recommendations from counselors and teachers; a high school transcript; and an attendance report.
